When you build a website you have certain responsibilities. You need to know what is acceptable and what isn’t. If you rely on your website to make money then it is especially important that you know why your site may be blocked or banned. You need to avoid trouble or you could lose money.
- When you are part of an affiliate group or affiliate program it is crucial that you really do read the terms and conditions that you agree to so that you do not do anything that would keep you from getting the revenues that you earn.
- No spam! This is the #1 rule of affiliate marketing and possibly on the whole Internet. No one wants spam in the inbox and it is illegal. More and more authorities are really cracking down on those that use unsolicited email as a form of marketing.
- Forums are not a place for you to put your affiliate program site links. Forums are not to be used for commercial use.
- Follow all rules about where you can place links and banner ads or other ad units. Most affiliate programs love it if you use links or banners in newsletters or e-zine articles. You can also use these in any content on your web page. As of December 5th you will need to disclose that you are compensated (per a recent FCC ruling). Just make sure you cover your bases and follow all of the rules and you won’t have any problems.
